For 26 years Holy Cross Cancer Centre in Kielce has been utilising its experience and modern interdisciplinary approach to patients. The hospital’s mission is to offer patients and their families comprehensive help in battling cancer. Our patients receive comprehensive in – patient, day and out – patient oncology care, starting from diagnosis, through treatment to rehabilitation and psychological counseling.

COMPREHENSIVE CARE AND DIAGNOSTICS

Holy Cross Cancer Centre is one of 16 regional oncology centres, which form a network of oncology centres throughout Poland. The Centre includes: a Department of Clinical Oncology with in – patient and out – patient chemotherapy procedures, Department of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation (with its own research and diagnostics laboratory and Bank of Hematopoietic Stem Cells), Department of Surgical Oncology, Department of Radiotherapy, Department of Brachytherapy and Hyperthermia, Department of Thoracic Surgery, Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Department of Urology, Department of Endocrinology, Department of Gynecology, Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care, Department of Medical Physics, Department of Diagnostics and Therapeutic Gastroenterology, Palliative Care Facility, Department of Rehabilitation.

LEADER IN GENETICS-FOCUSSED DIAGNOSTICS AND THERAPY

Diagnostics is conducted by departments fitted with highly – specialized equipment: Department of Tumor Pathology, Department of Medical Imaging (with a 3 Tesla MRI scanner, CT scanner, ultrasound, mammography unit), Esophagogastroduodenoscopy Department. At the Department of Nuclear Medicine with a PET centre, we create radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic tests used for treating oncology diseases, as well as cardiological and neurological diseases. The Centre also includes laboratory departments: Department of Laboratory Diagnostics, Department of Clinical Microbiology, Department of Tumor Markers, Department of Molecular Diagnostics and Department of Medical Physics. The Centre’s Department of Molecular Diagnostics was the first in Poland to be fitted with the diagnostic equipment necessary for individual therapy and research conducted there is used in clinical practice. The Centre is a leader in Poland in the study of various genes for therapeutic purposes and conducting gene – focused therapy for patients suffering from lung cancer, colorectal cancer and melanoma, hematologic malignancies or breast tumors which are particularly resistant to treatment as well as in GIST treatments and neuroendocrine tumors. The Centre operates a Breast Cancer Unit accredited by the Senologic International Society, which offers comprehensive diagnostics and treatment of breast tumors.

A RENOWNED POLISH TREATMENT – RESEARCH CENTRE

The Centre is a hub for research projects, which are utilised in clinical practice and which identify new paths in diagnostics and oncology therapy. The Department of Gynecology, a renowned Polish treatment and research centre, included in the structure of the Central European Group for Gynaecology Oncology, the European Network for Research and Individualised Treatment of Endometrial Cancer, conducts laparoscopy surgery workshops for gynaecologists from all over Poland. It is also one of the few clinics in Poland to possess a laparoscopic column capable of 3D imaging and to be equipment with a laser. It conducts laparoscopic procedures using hydro – jet cutting. The Department of Endocrinology conducts research into a new diagnostic and treatment methods for thyroid tumors. The Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery is the only clinic in Poland to offer immediate vocal prosthetic implantation on a regular basis for all patients required laryngectomy. The Department of Urology conducts innovate procedures using laparoscopy techniques and develops new techniques for treating cancerous and non – cancerous diseases of the genitourinary system. The vaccination schedule developed at the Department of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation is a break- through discovery for improving leukemia patient’s immunity. The Centre offers treatment to patients not only from the Swietokrzyskie Province, but form the whole of Poland. For their convenience, we have launched a call centre where they can register for clinical counseling or receive practical information on how to prepare for an examination or diagnostic or medical procedure. The Hospital publishes the Amicus magazine, a free quarterly magazine for oncology patients.
